Help Us

Donations

SHOC depends on donations from individuals, churches, schools, charitable organisations and local businesses.

We have 300 disadvantaged people on our books. Each year 70 new clients present themselves at SHOC. Many of them are homeless and many need help with health and financial issues.

We can help them to turn their lives around - your support can make a real difference. Here’s how:

  • £20 provides the basic food for one day’s lunches
  • £50 pays for counselling to assess a client’s needs and to prepare a care plan
  • £100 helps us to settle a client into accommodation
  • £200 covers the cost of a week’s IT training
  • £500 helps us to make essential improvements to our Day Centre

Make a donation online now to help us change the lives of homeless and disadvantaged people in need.

Volunteering

SHOC depends on a team of volunteers who regularly come in to Serena Hall to help us. volunteers

We work closely with the Slough Volunteer Centre

Get your business involved

SHOC can offer a range of opportunities for your organisation and your employees.

Employees’ time or gifts in kind

Your employees might like to give some of their time as a volunteer to help the homeless and vulnerable people in Slough. SHOC offers the opportunity to support our management team in various ways for a few hours each week or to join our Board of Trustees to help direct and manage the charity.

You and your employees may prefer to help with gifts in kind, e.g. developing our website, designing and printing literature, etc.

Work placements

SHOC is able to offer work placements by giving someone a role in our management team for a short period. This could be used to extend their experience into new areas and the work programme would be agreed with the employee’s manager.

Donations

Organisations themselves often like to be seen to be supporting local good causes. They see this as cause related marketing. SHOC would be happy to work with you to maximise the benefit to the organisation. SHOC attracts a lot of coverage in the local press and on local radio and has even been covered on Radio 4.

Donations of equipment

Equipment that is no longer effective for your organisation may be very useful for SHOC. Examples could include computers and office software, photocopiers, printers, desks and chairs, filing cabinets, etc.

Payroll giving

Your employees can make tax efficient donations to charities by regular payments through your payroll. Some of your employees may like to consider SHOC when doing this.

Fundraising

Employees often organise fundraising events for individual charities. If SHOC were to be chosen for one of these events, we would be happy to provide supporting materials, banners, presentations, etc.

Charity of the month or year

Most organisations choose a charity of the month or year. Again SHOC would be happy to do a presentation on why SHOC is a good candidate and provide supporting materials.

Success Story

"The Worshipful the Mayor of Slough, Cllr Jagjit Grewal, presented horticulture certificates to a group of users from Slough Homeless Our Concern (SHOC) on Wednesday, September 29. The group of seven people have been busy preparing an allotment plot and growing their own produce, with the support of their tutors from adult lifelong learning. The delicious vegetables have been a big hit at SHOCs base at Serena Hall in Burlington Avenue when they were served up for lunch. The project has seen the residents produce a portfolio of work that has led to five gaining a certificate in horticultural production."
